August 27 is Global Forgiveness Day

New book shares powerful stories of forgiveness

COLORADO SPRINGS – Monday, August 27 is Global Forgiveness Day, formed in 1994 out of a desire to see the message of forgiveness transcend national borders. This is an important day for Colorado Springs author Lisa Gibson, who gives the step-by-step process of how to forgive anyone for anything and provides life changing examples of others who have applied these principles to their lives in her intriguing and inspirational new book, “Releasing the Chains: Timeless Wisdom On How To Forgive Anyone For Anything.”

Gibson says, “One of my life mission’s is to see more people live lives of radical forgiveness. Global Forgiveness Day is a day for you to reach out to those who have wronged you. I want to challenge people to take a few moments to sincerely forgive someone. And, make it public. That way forgiveness will spread.”

The bestselling and award winning author shares inspiring stories of forgiveness, including how she was able to sit face-to-face with former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and forgive him for her brother’s death in the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie.  This book also includes fifteen other people’s extraordinary stories of forgiveness. Included in those stories is the story of David Works, whose daughters were murdered in the shootings at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, and how he and his wife were able to sit with the shooter’s parents just days later and offer their forgiveness. Gibson ultimately hopes that readers will be inspired to forgive by these stories and the other powerful accounts in her book.

“I wrote this book because as I have traveled around the world sharing my own story of forgiveness, the question I was most frequently asked was “how do you forgive? We have all been there, trying to forgive, but it seems we just get stuck. This book shows you the step-by-step process you walk through in order to really forgive anyone for anything.” Gibson said.

Gibson is a Colorado Springs-based attorney, global conflict coach, mediator, and founder and director of the Peace and Prosperity Alliance. She is the author of the award-winning book “Life in Death: A Journey from Terrorism to Triumph” and the audio series “Learning to Forgive: Your Pathway to Inner Peace.” In 2010, Gibson was given the distinguished honor of being chosen as one of Ten Outstanding Young Americans. She has made guest appearances on CNN, BBC, MSNBC, Hour of Power, and countless others.
